“The 2020 Duas Quintas Branco is a blend of 60% Rabigato, 20% Viosinho and 15% Arinto, with a dollop of Códega for the rest. About 10% of the juice was in a mixture of French and Austrian wood for six months, but this is otherwise unoaked. It comes in at 13.4% alcohol. A very nice vintage here, this has reasonable solidity, tension on the finish and a wonderfully fresh but fruity demeanor. The price here has gradually been ticking up, but it's hard to say the few extra bucks aren't deserved. It is consistent, it ages decently (although it won't become anything particularly profound), and it shows great. This vintage is pretty and solid as well. It showed nicely the next day too.”

Overview

The Duas Quintas name is synonymous with a blend of highland and lowland soils, maturity and freshness, schist and granite. The Duas Quintas Reserva white is made from a selection of grape varieties with personality, high natural acidity and remarkable aromatic complexity, a wine with structure to be enjoyed while young and which can evolve well during the ageing process. A wine that conveys the potential of Ramos Pinto's estate vineyards.

Winemaking

The date of the harvest of each vineyard is decided after tasting the grapes in the field several times in succession. Once the decision is made, the grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the winemaking centre in small boxes, separated by variety and vineyard Whole bunches undergo cold maceration for approximately 24 hours. The fresh grapes are gently pressed and the must transferred to the underground vats, where decanting takes place. About 90% of the wine ferments in stainless steel vats and the remaining 10% in French and Austrian oak casks of varying capacities This wine was bottled in May 2021

Tasting Notes

Clear and bright, pale yellow in color. Expressive on the nose, with notes of mature citrus fruits, like lemon. Upon aeration, other aromas of peach and apricot appear, always with an underlying sensation of freshness. It is full in the mouth with the riper fruits in great evidence. A long finish with mineral freshness balancing the wine to perfection.

Harvest Notes

2020 was marked by a very early growing cycle due to the mild temperatures in late winter and early spring. Although there was more rainfall than last year up to the month of May, the end of spring and the entire summer were very hot and dry. Despite accelerated maturation due to the high temperatures, the white grapes firmly withstood the heat and were picked with optimum aromatic potential, preserving a very interesting level of acidity. 2020 is a year with very low production but one in which the fruit is intensely aromatic.

Food Pairing

Ideal as an aperitif to enjoy this wine’s elegance and harmony. We recommend serving it with shellfish, sea urchin, octopus dishes or with fish. It is excellent with goat’s cheese. The ideal serving temperature is 55ºF and 59ºF.
