“The 2018 Sonoma Coast bottling displays bright and lively red fruit character with savory nuances and a welcome hint of bitterness in the finish. It’s a high-toned, leaner style of Pinot Noir that superbly reflects the cool coastal influences.”

“Jammy plum, strawberry and dark cherry ooze from the core of this beautifully coastal wine, seasoned in dried herb, clove and black tea. Expressive and varietal, with a thick tannin structure, it has room to open further and unwind, its oak well integrated and its tannins structured.”

“Pale to medium ruby, the 2018 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has slowly opening scents of black tea leaves, burnt orange peel, earth and bright red berry fruits. The palate is light to medium-bodied with restrained, earthy fruits, a soft frame and juicy finish.”

“The 2018 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is another hugely appealing entry-level wine in this range. Freshly cut flowers, mint, white pepper and red cherry fruit give the Sonoma Coast Pinot a brilliant upper register to play off its mid-weight personality. Next to the Russian River Pinot, the Sonoma Coast is more linear and a bit less exuberant, but every bit as appealing.”

Overview

Merry Edwards approaches life with graceful intensity. Now in the fifth decade of her winemaking career, Merry has earned the universal respect of winemaking peers, grape growers and academicians.

At home in the Russian River Valley since 1977, Merry Edwards has explored its hills, pockets, slopes and hollows, discovering small sites where choosing the right rootstock, clone and farming techniques can produce exceptional grapes. This led her in 1996 to purchase land in the Sebastopol Hills region of Russian River Valley.

The 2018 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a blend of several vineyards throughout the Sonoma Coast region, elegant in profile and showcasing a union of soft textural components and lively fruit. Pinot Noir clones used in this vintage include UCD37, Dijon 667, 777 and 115; Swan, Martini and Pommard.

Tasting Notes

Its elegant profile reflects its coastal home with a union of soft textural components and lively fruit. The exotic aroma shows off spicy notes of cardamom, allspice and cinnamon that expand into mouthwatering candied red cherries and juicy blackberries. On the palate, the tannins are round and full, accented by bright acidity. Finely integrated oak complements the fleshy, succulent fruit that leads into a long and unctuous finish.

Food Pairing

This Pinot is equally comfortable as a before-dinner treat or paired with an early course as part of a sumptuous banquet.
